Blizzard has finally announced
Diablo III. In doing so they have revealed two of the classes coming with the game. The Barbarian and The Witchdoctor. Unfortunately, the FAQ reveals that the game will only ship with 5 classes total. Since we already know of two of them that means that there are three left. I am very disappointed with this. The current state of affairs is that in a Diablo II:LOD world we have seven classes to chose from. Amazon, Barbarian, Sorceress, Necromancer, Paladin, Druid, Assassin. This means a good chunk of the classes we have come to love will be gone in this new game.
The gameplay looks legendary incorporating destructible environment, massive hordes of monsters and a constant stream of story events. I just hope blizzard changes their mind and doesn't remove so many of the classes. Any bets on which ones are going to get the axe?
Quick overview of the known changes:
- Back down to five classes
- New class: Witchdoctor
- Class specific quests
- Destructible environments
- Random scripted events
- Gender
- Potion bar is replaced with a wow-esque ability bar
- Mobs drop health orbs that heal instantly upon pickup
I will add features as I find them.
The Witch Doctor seems to replace the Necromancer we know from Diablo II. Other than that I think we'll see a Druid, a pure caster (like Mage/Wizard/Sorcerer) and an assassin type.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised if they came up with some kind of Amazon/Assassin.
............
I just hope they let all gear be equipped by anyone as long as they meet the stat requirements (strength, dex) wich implies I hope they don't make classes advance in a fixed way like WoW...
And all that together with letting classes have the tons of possible strategies and combos that Diablo II offered...
Essentially, don't make it WoW...
I say this because seeing from great games like Neverwinter Nights (NwN), from Bioware.
ReplyDeleteWhen Obsidian attempted to make NwN2, with all their enthusiasm - and I don't doubt they were psyched - they came up with very nice graphics, great environment design, average creature design, poor character design and nice toolset improvements.
They added 3.5 ruleset, etc etc.
However, everything they decided to change, like changing how abilities worked, UI, etc... was ruined...
They worried about making a game with cool "Features" like "lots of classes, lots of races, lots of something else" to put in the back of the gamebox...
Bless god for flash cards, games are unaffordable nowadays and thanks to flash card stuff I can still game without having to pay tons of money.
