Intelligent Rap

A couple post back I ranted about the horrible rap that they play on MTV and the radio. Well after that I decided to start a project to find out if all rap is like this. Are there rappers out there with something to say?

I created a pandora station and spent alittle time each day thumbing, trying to get it to stop playing songs with nothing more to say other than "I like sex" or "I will kill you" or "I like drugs". Certain exceptions were made if the song talked about those things in a original way.

OKAY without further ado here is the answer to my question. My pandora station: Socially Aware.

If you don't feel like listening to my station to find the answer, then let me say I have decided that there are rap artists out there that have a bigger message but these artists don't get airtime. (If the station plays a dumb song, I am sorry but after a month of tweaking it it still occasionally plays a lame song. But it is much better now than it was)

Worst song ever

Shawnna - Gettin' Some is probably the worst song ever made by mankind. No really, I am not exaggerating at all. If you dont believe me click the play button or the link. Not only that it encapsulates perfectly why I hate hip hop/rap.

Sigh. I wish MTV and all its other forms would just poof. Its like the radio and TV all have this obsession with this shitty rap that really doesn't say anything. It just looks nice. Bunch of guys walking around in expensive clothes and jewelry singing about sex and weed. While tons of women with basically no clothes on dance around them.

Maybe one day there will be a great awakening and everyone else will realize this. I will turn on MTV and see people like Public Enemy in the top spot; while not my favorite group at least they have something to say!

What inspired this post is I have been working on creating a "good" hip hop station on pandora. One of the songs that came up was "Mos Def - Mathematics". It just blew me away over how different that song is compared to ANYTHING you hear on the radio or MTV. It was actually good!! If I were to hear more songs like that I may have to stop hating hip hop.

On a side note if this post attracts some people who know of these socially aware rappers please please email me or comment with the ones you know. I am very new to all this and don't know many right now. Also if you are someone into the MTV style rap, eh don't be mad at me because your music is meaningless. I suggest unplugging for awhile and maybe reading a book? or how about turn on the news for five minutes that would be a good start.

I should note that 50 Cent - Candy Shop is also a contender for the worst song ever.
